Online Workshop via BigBlueButton - You will get the link to BBB as well as further information by e-mail at least one day before the workshop.

You will need a stable internet connection, a camera and a microphone.

The online workshop will be held via the commercial service BigBlueButton, which you will have to use voluntary and at your own risk. The GA accepts no liability under data protection law or otherwise.

Description:

Scientific writing requires clear structuring, specific grammatical, and sound stylistic knowledge for engineering sciences in particular. English scientific writing of any kind needs to consider specific cultural aspects as well.

Participants are welcome to submit 1 to 2 pages of a paper or comparable writing in English by 01.08.2024 to graduiertenakademie@tu-dresden.de. This will serve as a tool for a mistake analysis by the instructor. Please note: submitting a writing example is not obligatory but desired.

An error analysis by the coach will help discovering common mistakes, which will then be improved by the participants in interactive group work sessions. Moreover, participants are motivated to work on some issues over the week and get individual feedback by the coach.

Based on participants’ papers, issues such as clear structuring on a macro and micro level, cutting and combing techniques, avoiding redundancies, comma rules, active/ passive voice will be scrutinized.

Supported by the coach, participants will moreover advance different sections of their papers such as the abstract and introduction.
