Description:
Transitioning from academia to the non-academic job market can feel like learning a completely new language. How do you condense years of research into a two-page CV? What do German job ads actually mean when they say "ideally" or "preferred"? And how do you even begin to talk about salary when you've spent years on fixed tariff scales?
Ready for What's Next is a 5-week email course designed for doctoral candidates and postdocs who want to leave academia and enter the German job market.
What This Course Offers — And What It Doesn't
This isn't a passive experience where you sit back and hope everything works out. Each week, you'll receive substantial input, exercises, and strategies that require you to become active.
This course serves only as a start, not a guaranteed formula to get a job. Your success will thus depend on your willingness to do the self-work, explore on your own, and take personal responsibility for your career.
Week 1: The Mindset Shift
You'll learn to identify your transferable skills and translate your academic achievements into language that resonates outside the university.
Week 2: Decoding the Non-Academic Job Market
German job ads are full of implicit codes and unspoken expectations. This week focuses on where to look for jobs and how to analyze job descriptions.
Week 3: Your CV
Learn how to restructure your document to highlight impact, results, and relevance and pass the infamous "6-second screening" test.
Week 4: The Cover Letter
You'll get tips on building a compelling argument that connects your unique background to the employer's specific challenges.
Week 5: Professional Positioning
From the first interview question to the salary negotiation. We cover the cultural nuances of the German interview process and how to articulate your worth with confidence.
As part of registration, you are required to accept the terms and conditions for participation.
